It's Wildcat Wednesday! On Wednesdays, we spotlight a member of the LR Wildcat family.

This week we are introducing you to Abby Hatch!

-----------------------------

Job Title:
Second Grade Teacher

Tell us about your family (human and/or fur family):
My parents, Denise and Ronnie, live in Southeast, Missouri with my two dogs, Coco and Finn. They are planning to move to the area in the next couple of years! My brother, Austin, is a banker and lives in Springfield. MSU brought my brother and me out to Southwest, MO and we loved the area so much we decided to stay!

How long have you been a teacher/worked in education?
I graduated from Missouri State University in May. This is my first year teaching!

How long have you worked for LR?
Although this is my first year of teaching on my own, this is my second year in the district. Last year, I was lucky enough to be chosen to participate in the Internship Academy through MSU. I did my student teaching at the Primary, in a first grade classroom, alongside of Carrie Panique. I was blessed with the opportunity to accept a job at the Elementary building teaching second grade.

What is your favorite thing about working for LR?
My favorite thing about LR is the people that work here! Everyone is so welcoming and treats you like family right away. I was immediately welcomed into the district and befriended by all. This is definitely a place you want to stay at!

What makes you passionate about education?
I had a teacher who really helped me with reading, and I would like to have such an impact on my students. I hope to help my students enjoy learning and show them how fun it can be!

What is your must-have classroom item?
There are several must-have items that our class loves! We love Post-it notes, Expo markers, and Clorox wipes!!

If you had to choose a different grade/subject to teach, what would it be?
If I had to choose a different grade to teach, it would probably be first grade since that is what I student taught. However, I am loving second grade and my amazing team!!

What's the greatest misconception about teachers?
People believe we have a lot of free time but teaching is important and requires a lot of preparation.

What is your favorite quote?
"The world is full of nice people. If you can't find one, be one."

What is one item on your bucket list? Why?
I have not yet flown on an airplane. That is definitely something I am hoping to do in the near future!
