Community Storm Shelter Rules


  • During School hours, students and staff will co-occupy the Storm Shelters with community members. Members of the public will be separated from students and staff. 
  • The Storm Shelters are only open to the public when a tornado warning has been issued in our area and/or the tornado sirens have been sounded. Storm Shelter doors are controlled by a weather radio and will unlock when a tornado warning is issued.
  • The Storm Shelters will remain open only until the warning is lifted. When the warning expires, the Storm Shelters must be evacuated.
  • A Storm Shelter Supervisor is in charge and will be on duty to maintain the facility and to close it after the warning expires. Please follow the directions of the Storm Shelter Supervisor or other school personnel at all times. 
  • Weapons are prohibited in the Storm Shelters and on all school property.
  • Vaping, smoking or the use of tobacco in any form is prohibited in Storm Shelters and on all school property.
  • Alcohol and drugs (other than those prescribed by a doctor) are prohibited in Storm Shelters and on all school property.
  • Pets are not allowed in the Storm Shelters unless they are confined in an owner provided carrier or remain on a short leash next to the owner at all times.
  • Radios or music devices may be used only with individual earphones.
  • Children must be supervised and remain seated with parents/guardians at all times.
  • Storm Shelter doors must remain closed at all times. No one will be permitted to leave or open the doors until the warning has been lifted.
