Job Title:
1st Grade Teacher
Tell us about your family:
I’m a proud mom to two wonderful sons, Nate (22) and Vincent (18). Both are attending college with plans to become educators, and I couldn’t be more proud!
Our family also includes Patrick, our loving dog who believes that everyone is his friend!
How long have you been a teacher/worked in education?
This is my 11th year in education, and I couldn’t be more excited for this new chapter! I spent 9 years teaching in the Kansas City area, and 1 year teaching in the DFW area. Now, I’m thrilled to begin Year One in LR! I’m excited to be a Wildcat!
What makes you passionate about education?
Building a positive classroom community where students feel supported, valued, and excited to learn is such an amazing part of teaching! Watching students learn, grow, and have fun along the way makes every day in the classroom special.
What is your must-have classroom item?
Post-it notes and my laminator are definitely must-haves in my classroom.
If you had to choose a different grade/subject to teach, what would it be?
I absolutely love first grade and honestly wouldn’t change a thing! If I could add one little extra, though, having an hour each day to teach marine biology would be a dream. There’s just something so exciting about sharing a love of learning—and the wonders of the ocean—with young students!
What is something about you that might surprise people?
Once upon a time, I played in my grandpa's bluegrass band.
What is one item on your bucket list?
One item on my bucket list is to visit all of the National Parks. I would love to explore their beauty, learn about the history and wildlife of each park, and make memories along the way!

Vanessa, we are so glad to have you at LR!
