Tell us about your family (human and/or fur family):
I am now an empty nester, as of a couple of months ago. I have one daughter, McKenzie, who is 22 years old and just graduated PA school and is now a Ortho-Trauma provider at Cox. She now has our two yorkies, Ka'Lua and Mia living with her in Springfield. I have two new fur babies, Remi & Rori, who are goldendoodles that came home with me this week.

How long have you been a teacher/worked in education?
13 years - I worked in a private Christian school for 8 years, before coming to LR 5 years ago.

How long have you worked for LR?
5 years

Why did you choose to work for LR?
LR is home for me. I was born and raised in Rogersville and there is nowhere else like it. If you aren't from here you just don't understand it. After my daughter graduated from the private school I was teaching at, I went back into the professional business world. I said at that time I only wanted to teach if I could go back home to Rog to do it. I want to be a part of helping students make the awesome memories at Rog that I've had, from cheerleading to homecoming candidates. Once a WILDCAT, always a WILDCAT!!

What is your favorite thing about working for LR?
The size and atmosphere. LR is just different. It's not something you can really explain. We protect our own and we treat everyone as family.

How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?
I always thought I wanted to teach, but first thought elementary. Over time I have determined that high school is my preference as these students often need someone they can trust and be a positive influence in their lives. I wanted to be that person. I lost my son shortly after I delivered in 1998. I have always believed that everything happens for a reason and I believe the reason was because God had other children here that I needed to take care of, and that being my students.

What's the greatest misconception about teachers?
That we just work from 7:30-2:30 and have our summers off. I have yet to have a summer that I wasn't doing some type of training, teaching summer school, and/or going to camps.

What is your favorite quote?
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!" Phil 4:13

What's the weirdest job you've ever had?
Running a firework stand one summer -- NEVER again!

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Somewhere in the business world as a finance director probably.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Play the guitar or speak another language fluently.

What do you like to do when you're not at school?
I love to travel, especially cruises with my daughter, but also enjoy driving the old Rog backroads with the windows down and country music up load.
