It's Wildcat Wednesday! Every Wednesday, we will spotlight a member of the LR Wildcat family.

This week we are introducing you to Maggie Coyan!

-----------------------------

Job Title:
Kindergarten Teacher

Tell us about your family (human and/or fur family):
My husband, Clint and I just celebrated our 14th anniversary yesterday! (LRHS sweethearts :) He pastors a church and we have 4 kids. We live here in Rogersville, born and raised, and love the country life.

How long have you been a teacher/worked in education?
I've always taught in some capacity ... teaching English overseas, 1st grade, preschool, Spanish, and now kindergarten.

How long have you worked for LR?
My first job with LR was in high school, working at the Afterschool and Summer Adventure Program. I began my career teaching 1st grade, then took some time off to be at home with our 4 kids. Now I'm back in kindergarten for my 5th year teaching here.

Why did you choose to work for LR?
I know it's said a lot, but there really is no place like LR! My family is invested in the community and we've always called this place home.

How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?
I've always loved kids and had a slight obsession with chalk, lol. Although the chalkboards are out, the kids are still around! It's a really special thing to spend my days with the kids, investing in them as if they're my own. Summers off aren't too bad either!!!

What's the greatest misconception about teachers?
I think a lot of people believe that our job is to grow little brains and make kids smarter. Knowledge is great, but without love, our teaching is fruitless. "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all." -Aristotle

What stereotype about teachers is true?
It's hard work! Extremely rewarding, but hard work.

What is something about you that might surprise people?
I love the Spanish language and culture. I've had the opportunity to spend some time traveling and living overseas. Now that our kids are a little older, our family will be spending time in Ecuador this summer, working with a church plant there. We are excited for the adventure!

What is your favorite quote?
“Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”-Matthew 19:26

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Have more fun! As my husband says...it's not fun to not have fun. :)

What do you like to do when you're not at school?
I love being outside (when it's warm!) running, gardening, tennis, volleyball, bible study, and spending time with family, friends, and church family.
