Phase II Potential Project List

We Are LR Our School. Our Community. Vote on April 5th

PHASE II POTENTIAL PROJECT LIST

Since 2017, Logan-Rogersville School District has held multiple open community conversations, surveyed stakeholders, held board of education study sessions, and conducted demographic studies. Projects were broken into two (2) phases based on these conversations. Phase I projects were slated for 2019 bond improvements while Phase II were planned for spring 2022 when more bonding capacity would be available. Phase I priorities included: district-wide safety and security improvements as a top priority, rennovations at the Logan Elementary and Upper Elementary along with deferred maintenance for safety/security, accessibility and efficiency.  As student enrollment continues to increase more classroom space is needed and aging facilities need updating. Improvements and additional facilities are needed to support program offerings, athletics, and activities. The following is the list of potential project for the Phase II April 2022 Bond.

PRIMARY SCHOOL (DAYCARE & GRADES PK-1)

  • New Community Storm Shelter (last campus without a safe room): This safe room will be open to the community during severe weather similar to the storm shelters at Logan Elementary and the Upper Elementary. The space will be used to expand early childhood and provide an early childhood special education motor lab.
  • Classroom Additions: Each elementary campus will need additional classroom space to accommodate the increase in population to approximately 500 – 550 students per campus.
  • Library Renovation: This is a minor renovation for furnishings, technology, and shelving.
  • Playground Improvements: Each playground will be retrofitted with either a rubber pour-in-place or rubber tile accessible surface. The curbing at the Primary and Logan Elementary were designed years ago to accommodate the upgrade. The current early childhood playground will be the site of the community safe room. The playground will be relocated to an interior courtyard between the new safe room and the school, making it even more secure.
  • Traffic Flow Improvements. The South drive will be expanded and raised to support traffic and to aide with flooding.
  • Safety and Security Improvements: Each campus will include security cameras, access control doors, fencing, lighting, signage, curbs, etc. to improve the safety and security for our students and staff.
  • Acquire Adjacent Lots: In 2017, LR secured a 1st Right of Refusal for the three (3) lots adjacent to the North property line (next to the bus loop). This will help avoid the Primary School from becoming landlocked in the future when expansion may be necessary.

  • New Outdoor Classroom and Courtyard: A new hardscape courtyard will be built next to the safe room and an updated outdoor classroom will provide two (2) different secure outdoor classroom spaces.
  • Playground Improvements: Each playground will be retrofitted with either a rubber pour-in-place or rubber tile accessible surface. The curbing at the Primary and Logan Elementary were designed years ago to accommodate the upgrade.

ACTIVITIES

  • Phase II Soccer, Softball and Baseball Renovations: Press boxes, permanent seating, storage, restrooms, dugouts, and scoreboards.
  • New Tennis Courts: The current courts are in need of major repairs. Instead of a costly repair, they will be relocated to accommodate the new multi-purpose facility. The two (2) courts at the middle school will be removed and the new tennis complex will hold eight (8) courts instead of the current split configuration on both campuses.
  • Track Renovation: Due to the age of the track, resurfacing is necessary.  With this renovation the addition of visitor bleachers and a viewing platform for stadium events will be constructed. The current metal storage facility will be replaced and incorporated into the design.
  • Turf Stadium, Baseball (also designed for Softball) and New Practice Field: Accessibility, equity, and community pride are at the center of installing turf surfaces for practices and contests. A new practice field will be located on the high school campus for use by all activities, athletics, and the LR community. Should the need and desire arise for all weather turf at the softball and soccer fields, we would stagger those installations in future years to keep future renovations on a rotation schedule.
