Letter to Families 8/9/2021

August 9, 2021

Dear Parents / Guardians:

None of us thought we would be in this position again this school year. We understand how important it is for LR to return to school in-person. Not only for our students and families, but quite frankly, our economy. Providing a safe environment has been the focus as we take what we learned last year and revise the Return to Learn plan for 2021-2022.

This plan, and the action steps within, are the result of a collaborative planning process with key stakeholders throughout our community. The Return to Learn 2021 plan has been designed to recognize the health and safety needs of our students and staff, while providing learning experiences for our students that are important to the success of our future society. We appreciate the hours of thought, effort, and input from the Board of Education, Administrative team made up of Principals and Directors, District Advisory Council made up of faculty and staff, Education Professional Organizations, County Health Departments, LR Staff and Parent survey input, plus many other conversations with city, county, and state leaders.

This Return to Learn plan is meant to be a guide. We must prepare for the changing health conditions in our community, remain flexible, and accept modifications to the plan in response to the pandemic. Please reinforce the universal precautions with your children and help them understand by following these precautions, they are protecting not only themselves, but those they love.

We need school to be as normal as possible for our students, but like our community, school will look different at LR again this year. Physical distancing, masks, interactions limited to less than 15 minutes, additional cleaning, etc., for example, are no longer new to our routines. Events and activities are traditional parts of school that may look different this year. Despite these measures, we will not change our care and concern for students and each other. We will learn and continue to grow together and be an even better school district and community by being resilient, empathetic, and flexible. #WeAreLR.

On August 23, LR plans to start school in-person, but with a few precautions in place (see color/level – Green). We must all do our part to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Should the need arise to switch levels in response to a high number of quarantines, or COVID positive students and staff, we will add a layer of mitigations in order to keep students in school.

Each of us must do our part to positively impact the LR community by putting aside our differences regarding topics like masks and vaccinations. Let’s model for our children how to have productive, respectful conversations that help our community rally together while considering different points of view.

If you have questions or need clarification, we ask that you please call the district administrative office at 753.2891. Thank you in advance for your help and support.
