Jake Brown Wildcat Wednesday Spotlight banner

It's Wildcat Wednesday! Every Wednesday, we will spotlight a member of the LR Wildcat family.

This week we are introducing you to Jake Brown!

-----------------------------

Job Title:
Primary School PE Teacher

Tell us about your family (human and/or fur family):
My incredibly beautiful and supportive wife, Rebecca

How long have you been a teacher/worked in education?
This is my third year teaching, this will be my fifth year coaching on the baseball staff. I coached two years of football and just finished my second year with the softball team.

How long have you worked for LR?
Five years

What is your favorite thing about working for LR?
I love the community feeling of our staff. I get to work with so many people throughout our district (from Pre-K to the High School) and you always feel like everyone is on your side and willing to support what you are doing for the kids in your classroom.

How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?
I knew I wanted to be a teacher when we had the opportunity to fulfill PE credits for home school students when I was in college. The real teaching opportunities I received at Evangel gave me a passion for what I continue to do today.

What's the greatest misconception about teachers?
"Teachers get the weekends and summers off." I don't think there is a day that you couldn't find one of our staff members (at any level) putting in work for their kids during their "time off".

If you had to choose a different grade/subject to teach, what would it be?
Since one of my hobbies is woodworking, I would love to see what it would be like to teach a wood shop class. I have found that creating things with your own two hands is one of the most rewarding experiences in life.

What stereotype about teachers is true?
Coffee..we need coffee desperately.

What is something about you that might surprise people?
I've been sky diving, and scuba diving.

What is your favorite quote?
"Human beings are made up of flesh and blood, and a miracle fiber called courage." - George S. Patton

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Fly an airplane.

What do you like to do when you're not at school?
Spend time with my wife, woodworking

Anything else you would like people to know about you?
I have THE best job at LR.
