Job Title:
ELL Teacher
Tell us about your family (human and/or fur family):
I have been married to my husband Richard for 14 years. We have four human children and two furry children. Lori Ann is in 9th grade. Clayton is in 7th grade. Meghan is in 6th grade. Katie Lynn is at the Upper Elementary in 4th grade.
How long have you been a teacher/worked in education?
This if my fifth year working in education. I have worked in ELL all five years.
How long have you worked for LR?
This is my first year at LR.
Why did you choose to work for LR?
You can tell how much they care about the students they reach and how much they care about supporting their faculty and staff.
What is your favorite thing about working for LR?
The people! Everyone is so willing to do what is best for students!
How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?
I love working with children and students. I really love having fun and learning. I get to mix those two with teaching. My fourth grade teacher, Ms. Ahr made a huge impact in my life and I want to be able to pay that forward.
What's the greatest misconception about teachers?
That we are off in the summer or that our job is easy. There is nothing easy about it. But it is our calling and we persevere to better serve our students.
What stereotype about teachers is true?
I love snow days as much as students if not more. It's a great treat to have a surprise day off where we can all just stay home and enjoy hanging out as a family....all of that with the addition of Hot Cocoa! PERFECT!
What is something about you that might surprise people?
I once chopped off half my finger nail with a mandalin slicer. I had to walk around with a large soft cast on my finger and looked like a human You're #1 fan sign.
What is your favorite quote?
One Child, One Teacher, One Book, One Pen Can Change The World. - Malala
What's the weirdest job you've ever had?
I was a sandwich artist at Subway... it was the only time anyone has ever called me an artist.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Fruit loop taste tester. I love those things!
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Knit! I've tried several times and my hands just don't work. I really want to learn to do it though.
What do you like to do when you're not at school?
I love to read. I also can usually be found at Crossway Baptist Church. My family and I help with Kindergarten Sunday School, I'm in the choir (when I can wake up on time), and my husband is the Upwards Director. We love our church!
Anything else you would like people to know about you?
I do not like tomatoes.
