Carol Vedder Wildcat Wednesday banner

It's Wildcat Wednesday! Every Wednesday, we will spotlight a member of the LR Wildcat family.

This week we are introducing you to Carol Vedder!

-----------------------------

Job Title:
Elementary Physical Education Teacher, Assistant HS Girls Basketball and Track Coach

Tell us about your family (human and/or fur family):
My husband, Pat and I have been married for 20 years this June. We have two wonderful, twin daughters Amy and Lori, who are Seniors at LR. We also have our dog, K.C.

How long have you been a teacher/worked in education?
I have been in education for 28 years.

How long have you worked for LR?
I have been fortunate enough to work at LR for five years.

Why did you choose to work for LR?
Our family moved from Springfield to LR in 2006. It took until 2014 for an Elementary PE Job to open up! I was happy teaching in Springfield but my father passed away in 2013 and our daughters were competing in LR Sports and Music Activities which made the move an easier decision.

What is your favorite thing about working for LR?
The kids, faculty and principal I work with in LR!

How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?
I knew I wanted to be a teacher after my first Teaching Practicum in college. I was with Mr. Warrick at Glendale High School in a Calculus Classroom. It was so wonderful to see students and a teacher that engaged in learning together. My father was also a teacher and he absolutely loved his job!

What stereotype about teachers is true?
We love Snow Days too! We just don't like making them up! :)

What is something about you that might surprise people?
I have bungee jumped two times!

What is your favorite quote?
I have two that I love. First one is from Robert Fulghum: " Everything I need to know...I learned in Kindergarten."
Second one: " Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8 KJV

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I would be an accountant.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would love to learn to paint and not be stressed about the outcome!

What do you like to do when you're not at school?
I love to spend time with my family, go to the lake and read a good book!

Anything else you would like people to know about you?
I love my job and I HAVE the BEST JOB in the entire district!!
