PSYCHOLOGY COURSE DESCRIPTION


This is a survey course providing a study of the behavior of living organisms, particularly human behavior. Typical problems are methods and measurement in psychology, theoretical systems, learning, motivation, perception, personality and psychotherapy. Each unit is completed with a comprehensive exam. Offered both semesters. All  subject matter is covered during the following units.

A)  Introducing Psychology
B)  Infancy, Childhood and Adolescence
C)  Learning : Principles and Applications
D)  Psychological Disorders
E)  Therapy and Change



WORLD HISTORY COURSE DESCRIPTION


This is a survey of human evolution and civilization with consideration being given to the political, cultural, theological, and technological achievements of peoples included during the following periods of history:

A)   Ancient Egypt  (4000-1000 B.C.)
B)   The Rise and Triumph of  Greek Civilization  (2000-150 B.C.)
C)  The Legacy of Rome  (750 B.C.- A.D. 500)
D)  Western Europe in the Middle Ages  (A.D. 500-1500)
E)  European Colonization of the Americas  (1490-1750)
F)  The French Revolution  (1789-1820)
G)  The Age of Imperialism  (1800-1914)
H)  World War One  (1914-1918)
I)  Nineteenth Century Russia and the Bolshevik Revolution  (1812-1918)



GRADING SYLLABUS


Fifty percent of the student's grade will be based on points accumulated in a combination of options. The other fifty percent will be based on the student's exam scores averaged. The two are then averaged for the student's overall grade. Points can be earned from the following list of  options.

1)  Book Review-  You may do a standard book review / reaction paper. Prior approval of book is necessary. ( 35 points)

2)  Debate-  This is an excellent way to probe deeper into a subject which has caught your attention. Students must see me for details as to time, format, and organization. (15 points)

3)  Art-  A collage, painting, or sculpture related to subject material or current events will be acceptable. Prior approval of theme is necessary. (15-40 points)

4)  Oral-  Five points will be given at teachers discretion to anyone who makes an unusually good comment or point during class discussions.

5)  Research Paper-  Topics can be anything covered in class or in a related field. Students must see me for approval of topic and format on paper. (35 points)

6)  T.V. and Movie Reviews-  Specific films will be mentioned and listed in class as suitable for a coverage and reaction  paper. (20-35 points)

7)  Oral Reports-  Topics can be over anything covered during the grade period. Person, place, events, etc. Students must check with me for approval of reports. (15-20 points)

NOTE :  Assignments, or point work, are due one week before the end of all quarters. Students are allowed to complete any or all of the above options per quarter. After  total points are accumulated and averaged with the student's exam percentile score, the following grading scale will be applied.

100-95 = A
94-90 = A-
89-88 = B+
87-83 = B
82-80 = B-
79-78 = C+
77-73 = C
72-70 = C-
69-68 = D+
67-63 = D
62-60 = D-
