School Counselor

Each 4th and 5th grade class is scheduled for 30 minutes of guidance per week.  These sessions are for the counselor and student to interact with one another regarding a variety of topics including:  Character Education, getting along with others, keeping myself safe, goal-setting, careers, saying no to drugs and alcohol, and coping with changes.

Many children have questions, concerns, and issues about different situations and changes in their lives.  It is helpful for children to share their concerns and feelings with others in a small group setting. Through this interaction with others who have similar feelings, children learn to accept and deal with various situations in a positive way.

Groups are made up of 4-5 students and we will generally meet for 6 weekly sessions.  If your child is asked to be in a group, a permission form will need to be signed and returned prior to joining the group.

Students may be referred for individual sessions by teachers, parents, or self.  If you have questions or concerns about your child, please contact me.

COUNSELOR ROLES

The counselor is responsible for enrolling students in their courses each year.  Students have the option of choosing either Band or Study Hall in sixth grade.
