|

|
Four Components of Parents As Teachers: Parents As Teacher uses four ways to partner with parents to help each child reach his/her potential for learning:
1. The Personal Visit: During a personal visit a certified parent educator will share information on child development, will bring an age appropriate activity for parents and child to do together, and help parents observes their child’s play and development. Usually, visits are conducted at home, making it convenient and safe for small children. 2. Group Meetings: Parents come to central location to meet other parents, hear experts speak on parenting topics, or share interesting activities with their child(ren). Group meetings provide a chance for parents to meet other parents of young children. 3. Screening: Screenings provide a yearly opportunity for parents to see where their child’s progress fits in with standardized measures of child development. Health, hearing, and vision screenings are also provided. Screenings usually reassure parents that their child(ren) are meeting developmental milestones with usual age ranges. If delays are identified that may affect future learning, parents can be referred to resources that will provide the help their child needs. 4. Resource Network: Each Parents As Teachers program identifies resources in the community that are available for supporting and enriching families. |
