WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN!
Kindergarten is an amazing time in your child's life! This is a time of growth, learning, and change! These changes can be stressful to some children, but at Logan-Rogersville, we work to make this transition a positive one for both you and your child! In our kindergarten, we use thematic units, Saxon Math, and the Scott Foresman Reading/Language series in the education of your child. Students are given opportunities for classroom instruction, small group interaction, computer education, and independent practice. At Logan-Rogersville Primary School, we know, understand, and love our students! Throughout the year we will accomplish amazing things! In our classroom, we will have so much fun while learning! Watch out around the L-R Primary School! We've got Watch D.O.G.S. on campus!!
We have asked, and had an amazing response from Dads of Great Students! These Watch D.O.G.S. will be out and about in our classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, playgrounds, etc., interacting with and encouraging students along the way! We look forward to seeing lots of Watch D.O.G.S., beginning in September!

LEARNING IS FUN!
Our next couple of themes will Pumpkins, Red Ribbon Week, and Halloween! We also focus daily on letters, letter sounds, and blends. Learning to read is a process, and we are taking our time through each of the steps involved. Listening, as well as following text from left to right on a page, recognizing letters, and simply looking at word structure and spacing in a fun way can awaken the world of reading, right at your child's fingertips! We will also use our "Smartie" Spelling to stretch out words and begin our journey into writing. Please help your child at home throughout the year by reviewing all letters and letter sounds, "Popcorn" words, and by helping your child put sounds together to form words! Most of all, read to your child, read with your child, and listen to your child read!  Past Themes for our year include: Kindergarten, Friendship. Oh, The Places We'll Go, Apples, Fall, Fire Safety, Bats!!!

LOGAN-ROGERSVILLE PARENT-TEACHER ASSOCIATION
Parents (and other special family members) can become involved in our school in a variety of ways! First and foremost, please join our Logan-Rogersville Parent-Teacher Association. Our LR-PTA does amazing things for our school! Earning money through magazine sales and the Spring Auction, they are able to provide for our students in many ways! Magazine sales this year were a HUGE success, and we just had our MEGA-fun, MEGA PARTY. We are getting ready and planning for the new and improved PTA Fun Night and Auction in the spring. The RIF Program is sponsored by PTA, as well as many classroom purchases, and special events and parties for students throughout the year! Be sure to read all information sent home by the PTA, and become involved in your child's education! Oh, the Places You'll Go!!!

MEET THE TEACHER

My name is Carrie Keith, and I am one of nine kindergarten teachers at Logan-Rogersville Primary. This is my eleventh year in the Logan-Rogersville School System. I have taught third grade for six years, and this is my fifth year in kindergarten. I am married to Kendall, and we share two beautiful daughters, Maddie & Kennedy, who are also a part of the L-R School Family. My education began at home in Mansfield, MO, growing through the Mansfield School System, then to Southwest Missouri State University, where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education, and an emphasis in Early Childhood Education. I am currently working towards my Master's degree in Early Childhood Education. I am so very excited to be a part of your child's learning, and can't wait to see all that we can accomplish this year! Oh, The Places We'll Go!!!

KY3 WEATHERSCHOOL FORECAST COMPETITION
CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs. Keith's 2006-2007 Kindergarten Class for finishing in 2nd Place out of a total of over 200 classes entered in the KY3 WeatherSchool Forecast Contest! Each day our class predicted the high temperature, low temperature, and precipitation for the following day. Ron Hearst, meteorologist from KY3 News, delivered our 2nd Place prize on Friday, November 9, 2007. Our prize would have been a handheld lightning detector for our class, however the first place class is a two-time winner, so we instead received a COMPLETE REMOTE WEATHER STATION (value approx. $3,000) for our school - how exciting!!! From what I've seen,  I think we just might have some future meteorologists in our midst! Oh, the Places They'll Go!!!
