Text Box: Angie Harrell — Counselor

Logan-Rogersville Primary School

Students learn about a new character trait each month.

The character word for May is

DEPENDABLE

To be consistent in your actions and behavior, and to be steadfast in doing what is needed or expected of you.

The role of the elementary school counselor is to assist all students in achieving success in school by helping them acquire competencies in knowledge of self and others, educational development, and career exploration.  Weekly classroom visits emphasize that the classroom is their first workplace and that communication, decision making, interpersonal and career awareness skills are important to their success.  I also assist in academic planning for students individual needs and provide individual and small group counseling as needed.  Parents may contact me to schedule an appointment to discuss concerns or needs.

Educating Children About Strangers

In May students viewed a video titled “Stranger Safety”.  Many children believe a stranger is scary and mean.  For that reason the term “stranger” is not used in the video.  Instead, children are taught who is a “Kinda Know” and a “Don’t Know”, and who their “Safe Side” adults are.

Julie Clark, founder of the Baby Einstein Company, and John Walsh created the video.  It received the 2006 Mom’s Choice Award.  Kids enjoy the video which is both humorous and informative.
