JAZZ BAND

 

COURSE RATIONALE

Jazz band is important for the more serious instrumental music students in that it exposes them to some more commercial instrumental music styles.  For the student interested in pursuing a career in performance and studio work, the jazz band will provide a more rounded and more advanced instrumental education.

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Selective instrumental group performing all styles of jazz music for large jazz ensemble.  Will perform at Christmas and spring concerts as well as all home varsity boys and girl’s basketball games.  Additional performances may be possible as opportunities arise.

 

COURSE COMPENTCIES

The student will be able to

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of jazz music history.
  2. Demonstrate general and specific jazz performance techniques.
  3. Demonstrate basic knowledge of jazz improvisation techniques.
