COURSE RATIONALE

Band not only can be the foundation of a music-related career, but it also has many benefits for students as they grow into adulthood.  Participation in band enhances problem solving skills, teamwork, goal setting, self-expression, coordination, memory skills, self-confidence and esteem, concentration, and poise.  Band combines many technical aspects such as science, math, language (foreign and abstract), history, and physical coordination to create an emotion and to create art.  Band helps the student recognize beauty, be more sensitive, be more compassionate, more gentle, and to have a more full life.

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed for students wishing an experience in the art of instrumental music.  Students will perform music of many genres and stylistic eras.  High school band includes marching band and concert band with opportunities for solo and small ensemble performance.  The marching band will perform at all home varsity football games and will compete at several marching competitions and parades.  The concert band will perform at Christmas and spring concerts, as well as evaluative festivals and graduation ceremonies.
