LOGAN-ROGERSVILLE R-VIII VISUAL ARTS CURRICULUM
ART I

COURSE RATIONALE

All students should have the opportunity to develop their intuitive, original, creative, and visual thinking skills, in the over all development of higher level thinking skills of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.  This course provides a foundation that enhances the skills of visual thinking and the extension of one’s imagination into ideas, theories, values, visions, plans, and inventions.  Students will have many channels to explore and expound upon their aesthetic awareness development.  Students will better understand the world around them.  Symbolically, art allows understanding and communication to take place across cultural, geographical, and historical barriers.  Through understanding and development of perceptual skills, craftsmanship, work ethic, and various techniques the students will acquire a knowledge base that will develop self confidence and the ability to express themselves in a productive and fulfilling manner.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The student will be provided the opportunity to study and experience various techniques, styles, and concepts related to the basic elements of art correlated with historical and aesthetic background information.  The student will develop perceptual awareness by expressing ideas, feelings, and emotions through problem-solving assignments.  Students that have an interest in such areas as drawing, painting, ceramics, and sculpture are advised to enroll in this course.
