Student Meal Charge Procedures

SCHOOL YEAR 2008-2009

STUDENT CHARGE LIMITS:
Students at each grade level will be allowed to charge lunch as follows:
Kindergarten through 1st grade – 5 lunch charges
Upper grades 2-5 – 5 lunch charges
Middle school grades 6-8 – 2 lunch charges
High school grades 9-12 – NO lunch charges regardless of meal status.

NOTE: Breakfast and ala carte items (ex. Extra milk with meals), will not be allowed as chargeable items at any grade level or by students of any meal status, if there is a negative balance.

STUDENT ALTERNATIVE MEALS:

When the charge limit has been met and students do not have the funds to pay for the next lunch, an alternative meal will be offered. The alternative meal will be a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a cheese sandwich and one carton of white milk. (A Wildcat meal)

LOW BALANCE & NEGATIVE BALANCE COMMUNICATION:
Twice a month the cashier and/or office personnel, (K-5), will send low/negative meal balance letters home via teachers. At all other grades the cashier will tell the student (verbally) when student accounts reach a “1 lunch to go” account limit.
The cashier and/or office personnel will phone each household if a student receives 5 continuous days of the alternative lunch. Once the student has been given 10 continuous days of the alternative lunch, the lead cashier will notify the Food Service Director & the building Principal.
