Nov 1 Missouri University of Science & Technology is offering the Chancellor's Scholarship to fifteen deserving Missouri Freshman students for the fall of 2009. To be eligible students must be in the upper 10% of their high
school graduating class, have a 3.75 GPA or higher, received a score of 30 or better on the ACT, and have strong leadership skills through school and community activities. Deadline is Nov. 1, 2008. See the counselor's
office for an application.
Nov 20 The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) is pleased to announce its first annual "Freedom in Academia" student essay contest. FIRE is looking for students who are seniors to submit a well-written essay on freedom of speech on college campuses. First place winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship and second place winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship. For more information on rules, regulations and instructions go to www.thefire.org/contests. Deadline is November 20, 2008.
 Nov 30 The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program is available to Eligible participants. Scholarships will be awarded to the three finalists in the Final Round of the National Contest as follows: 1st place - $18,000; 2nd place - $16,000; and 3rd place - $14,000. Each Department (State) winner who is certified into and participated in the first round of the National Contest will receive a $1,500 scholarship. Students shall be citizens of or lawful permanent residents of the United States. All contestants must be bona fide students herein described as any student under the age of twenty (20) years on the date of the National Contest who is presently enrolled in a high school or junior high school (public, parochial, military, private or state accredited home school) in which the curriculum of said high school is considered to be of high school level, commencing with grade nine (9) and terminating with grade twelve (12). Students must be enrolled in high school or junior high school during the time of participation at any level of The American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest. Contestants must either be legally domiciled within or attend an educational institution within the Department (State) that they enter competition. Dec 10 The Missouri School Boards' Association John T. Belcher Memorial Scholarship is available in the counselor's office. Nominees will be selected by the local board of education based on academic achievement, leadership abilities and the quality of an essay related to public education. All completed applications must be returned to the counselor's office no later than November 19, 2008.
Dec 15 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award will be offering $1,000 scholarships for a least 400 students. Students must demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and initiative through examples such as: starting his/her own business; participating in organizations such as DECA, Junior Achievement, Future business Leaders of America (FBLA), Future Farmers of America (FFA), National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), among others. Students may apply October 15, 2008 through December 15, 2008. Applications are available on line at www.NFIB.com/YEA
Dec 15 The AXA Foundation, in association with U.S. News & World Report presents the AXA Achievement Scholarship. Scholarship awards are as follows: $10,000 scholarships to 52 students (one in each state, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico), and $15,000 additional scholarships to 10 national recipients chosen from the pool of 52 state winners, bringing their total award to $25,000. Students must meet the following to qualify: demonstrate ambition & drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family & community, and have the ability to succeed in college. January 1, 2009 The Ozark Plateau Chapter of Quail Forever is offering a $250 scholarship to a senior who meets the eligibility requirements. To be eligible students must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA, demonstrate leadership skills and the motivation to participate in extracurricular activities, demonstrate a commitment to and passion for conservation and improvement of wildlife habitat, submit an autobiography & essay (see application for details), and submit two letters of recommendation as well as a copy of your high school transcript. The United States JCI Senate Foundation awards $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the United States who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. The number of grants awarded annually will be at the discretion of the United States JCI Senate Foundation. They must be used for educational expenses in the first year of full-time study. Checks awarded will be made out in the name of the recipient and the educational institution of their choice. The Missouri JCI Senate will pick 2 nominees to represent Missouri for the US JCI Senate scholarships. The Missouri JCI Senate will present 2 Missouri winners each a $250 scholarship then forward their applications
on to the United States JCI Foundation for consideration. (This is available to Missouri residents only.) The deadline for Missouri entries is postmarked Jan 2, 2009. The application form can be downloaded from either of the two web sites

 Jan 8  The Elks National Foundation 2009 Most Valuable Student Scholarship is available at www.elks.org/enf/scholars. Any high school senior who is a US citizen is eligible. Visit the above website for more information or stop by the counselor's office to obtain additional information. Deadline is January 8, 2008.
January 23 Information on National DAR Scholarships is available on line at www.dar.org or in the counselor's office. The Roberta A. Capps American History Scholarship, listed on the NSDAR Scholarship Fact sheet as the Dr. Aura-Lee A. and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship is awarded to a student who is in the top 10% of his/her graduating class, is a citizen of the United States, a resident of the State of Missouri and plans to attend an accredited college/university in Missouri. Use the State Application and Financial Need Forms. This must be postmarked by January 23, 2009. The Irene and Leeta Wagy Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a young woman pursuing a degree in education. The student must be in the top 10% of her graduating class, a citizen of the United States, a resident of the State of Missouri and plans to attend an accredited college/university in Missouri. Use the State Application and Financial Need Fromm's. This must be postmarked by January 23, 2009. The Dorothy Poikert Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a boy or girl pursuing a degree in Business. The student must be in the top 10% of her graduating class, a citizen of the United States, a resident of the State of Missouri and plans to attend an accredited college/university in Missouri. Use the State Application and Financial Need Fromm's. This must be postmarked by January 23, 2009.

Jan 31 Simon Malls (Battlefield Mall)is offering the Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship program to high school seniors living in communities within an hour of a Simon Mall. The program provides a one-time award of up to $1,500. Students may apply by visiting guest services at Battlefield Mall, or on line at www.syf.org. Scholarship will be based on academic record, leadership skill, participation in school and community activities and financial data. Deadline is January 31, 2009.

Feb 1, 2009 University of Missouri Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business is offering several different scholarships. Scholarship information is available on their website at http://business.missouri.edu. Scholarship deadlines are February 1, 2009.
Feb 15 The Missouri Teacher Education Scholarship Program is offering a one-time $2,000 scholarship to students who will be pursuing a career in teaching. Students must be a resident of Missouri, rank in the top 15 percent of your high school class or score in the top 15 percent on the ACT or SAT, and attend an approved teacher education program at a 4-year college or university in Missouri. Applications are available in the counselor's office. Deadline is February 15, 2009.
Feb 15 The Missouri Minority Teaching Scholarship Program offers a $3,000 per
year renewable scholarship to minority students pursing a career in
teaching. Students must be a Missouri resident, be an African American,
Asian American, Hispanic American or Native American, rank in the top 25
percent of their high school class and scores in the top 25 percent of the
ACT or SAT, and be enrolled in a participating, approved teacher education
program at a community college or a 4-year college or university in
Missouri. Applications are available in the counselor's office. Deadline
is February 15, 2009.
Feb 28 U.S. Bank will be awarding up to thirty $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend accredited two- or tour-year colleges full-time next fall. Apply on line at usbank.com/studentbanking. There is no essay and no minimum GPA. Students will be selected through a random drawing process. Deadline is February 28, 2009.
April 15 The Urban Flight & Rural Needs Scholarship Program provides scholarships to eligible students who enter a teacher education program and make a commitment to teach as a condition of receiving the scholarship. The scholarship will be applied toward the cost of eligible students' tuition and fees, up to four years, at a 2-year or 4-year college or university in Missouri. Students must be a resident of Missouri, demonstrate financial need, and have a cumulative grade point average of a 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Applications are available in the counselor's office.
Deadline is April 15, 2009.
April 15 The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program is a federally-funded scholarship for student who show outstanding academic achievement and promise. Scholarship may be awarded for up to $1,500 per year for the
first four years of study at a four-year institution of higher education. Renewal is based upon maintenance of good standing as define by the institution of higher education. Students must be a Missouri resident, be accepted by the fall of the year following high school graduation for enrollment at a four-year institution of higher education, score in the top 10 percent of the national percentile on the ACT test, and file a statement of registration status certifying that you are registered with the selective service if applicable. Applications are available in the counselor's office. Deadline is April 15, 2009.

The System, A Paul Mitchell Partner School Scholarship Application is available in the counselor's office. Scholarship may be in the amount of $500-$2,500. Deadline is April 30, 2009.
June 20, 2009 Abbott and Fenner scholarship: JUNIORS AND SENIORS are eligible. Go to http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm to learn more about this opportunity. Submission deadline is June 20, 2009. You must write an essay on one of two topics and submit through email.
June 27, 2009 Big Sun Scholarship is offering a $500 scholarship to student athletes. All student athletes regardless of the sport they are engaged in are eligible to apply. The student must be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute. To apply go to http://www.bigsunathletics.com. Deadline is June 27, 2008
Dates vary The American Legion offers scholarships to students who are dependents of veteran's. The Counselor's office has a copy of the Need A Lift book which lists scholarships, grants and loans which students may qualify. Students may also visit www.NeedALift.org for more information, applications, and to view the Need A Lift book. Scholarship deadlines may
vary.
