HISTORY CLUB - Tuesday, September 23 history club will meet in Mr. Katzin's room at 7:10 am to elect officers. All members need to attend.

KEY CLUB - Key Club weekly volunteering events:

Key Club is in urgent need of concession stand workers for Tuesday September 23 for the middle school football game. You will need to be there at 4:30. See Mrs. Kovach today or Monday!

PEP CLUB - Attention all Pep Club members. There are still some of you who are signed
up, but have not paid your $3.00 membership dues. Please do so ASAP. If you're not sure, please contact Mr. Garrigan.

 

To See the Nurse - Students- you must have a health room visit form with you to visit the nurse. Your teachers have the forms and will fill one out for you BEFORE you come to the nurse's office. If you arrive without a form, you will be sent back to get one. Do not come to the nurse's office between classes. Your teacher needs to know where you are. The only exception is if you are at lunch. During lunch hours you must get permission from one of the lunch supervisors to come in.

 

Soccer shirts on sale - If interested see Mr. Wubbena or Mr. Katzin. The money needs to be turned in before they are ordered.

 

A+ Tutors - The first Mandatory meeting will be Sept. 24 right after school in the library.

SCHOOL PORTRAIT DAY
Wednesday, September 24 will be the student and faculty portrait day. Beginning first hour, we will begin calling students down by class. Lifetouch will also be set up early so we may snap all faculty and staff photos before first hour.

If you would like to order picture packets, please bring your money to the Lifetouch photographers on Wednesday. Order forms are available in the office or from Mr. McCroskey.

HEALTH QUESTIONNAIRE – Students, several of you have not turned in your Student Health Questionnaire. You will not be allowed to take school pictures if your health questionnaire is not turned in.

FBLA - There will be an FBLA meeting next Thursday, September 25th, at 7:10 in Pummill's room. We will be electing officers. If you are interested in running for an office, sign up on Pummill's door. Please bring your $10 dues money.

The OTC Dental Hygienist Clinic has granted our school 60 free dental appointments for October 30, 2008. If you would like one of the appointments see Mrs. Burks, school nurse.

LIBRARY NEWS – Students, you are welcome to visit the library during all three lunches. The library is a great place to get away from all the hustle of school. You can sit down on the couch and relax with your friends in a quiet spot.

Math Club: Thursday, September 25 Math club will meet in Mr. Wubbena's room at 7:10 am. All students’ interested need to attend.

8th Hour Tutoring – Students the following teachers will be available in their rooms from 2:25 to 3:20 on Tuesdays and Thursday beginning Sept. 4. The teachers will help any students needing assistance in their subject area. Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Creach, Mrs. Shriver, Mrs. Kovach (when MS lets out), Mr. Kinslow, Mr. Wubbena (when soccer is over), Mrs. Floyd, Mrs. Mistler, Mrs. Latimer and Mrs. Dunavant.

Missouri State University Showcase 2008 for prospective students will be held on October 4, 2008. Students will meet with faculty, tour campus, tour residence halls, learn about admission, financial aid etc. The agenda of the day's event may be viewed at www.missouristate.edu/sc. The on-line registration form will be available until, Wednesday, September 29. If you would like more information, stop by the counselor's office.

We have attached a flyer for the College and Career fair held in Springfield, MO on October 7, 2008 from 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm.

Please post this in your classroom and make sure you inform our juniors and seniors about this event.

Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarship is now available. If you are interested come by the counselor's office for more information. Students much excel in academics, athletics and leadership. Completed applications are due by Oct. 1st.

The Miss Merrie Christmas Pageant sponsored by The Gillioz Theatre in downtown Springfield is open to Junior and Senior girls. The 1st place winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship and 2nd & 3rd place winners will receive a $500 and $250 scholarship. See the counselor's office for more information and/or an application. Deadline is October 15, 2008.

PSAT is on October 15th!
Who takes this test?
• This is only for interested students.
• Interested Sophomores may take the test but will not be entered for the National Merit Scholarship program, it is just for practice/preparation for next year
• Interested Juniors who take this test will be screened for the National Merit Scholarship Program
What is the PSAT?
• It is the Pre-SAT and the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test
• It measures critical reading, math problem-solving, and writing skills
• It helps you get ready for the SAT Reasoning test
• It is the test which qualifies students for the National Merit Scholarship
How do I sign up?
• If you are interested, you must come by the counselor’s office to sign up and pay the $13 fee by October 10th

ATTN: JUNIORS AND SENIORS

Drury University is providing an ACT Preparation Workshop on November 14, 2008 from 9am-12pm. The presenter will be Chad Cargill of Cargill Consulting. The cost of the workshop is $35.00. In addition, students can purchase "The Cargill ACT Preparation Book" for $20.00.

Students must meet the following guidelines to be eligible to attend this
workshop:
Seniors: Must be scheduled for the December 13, 2008 ACT TEST.
Juniors: Must be scheduled for either the February 7, 2009 or April 4, 2009 ACT TEST.

Students need to sign up in the Counselor's office by October 17, 2008. Eligibility requirements include being registered for ACT TEST, and bringing a check or money order to the counselors office made out to Drury University for the amount of the workshop (and if applicable the cost of
the Cargill ACT Preparation Book).

All students are required to get with their teachers prior to the workshop to obtain any work they may be missing the day of the ACT workshop.

Transportation to and from the ACT workshop will be provided by an LRHS school bus.
